Assumption Day

We set out this morning with two goals: to pick up our box from the office downstairs and to pick up our cartes de sejour (which we have heard from the HR office at INSERM are ready). Unfortunately, it was Assumption Day and all offices (and many other businesses) were closed. On top of that, it's monday, so the museums were closed. Fortunately, there is always something to do in Paris. We decided to hike up to Sacre Coeur. The kids can see the basilica from their bedroom window and Jonah had come to believe that it was Cinderella's castle. We walked to Montmartre, and up the hill of Sacre Coeur. Ella walked the whole way up! The kids had a great time riding the carosel, and Ella was fascinated by the Mass going on inside SC. Jonah was a bit disapointed when we walked in saying, "this not Cinderella's home. This Church." But, he recovered quickly, "See that. Rose window there." The kids watched intently hoping to see the street performers dressed as statues move even a tiny bit, and were very entertained by the man who played La Boheme on his player piano.
This evening Lily came over again to babysit. This time we got falafel from our favorite falafel place in the Marais and then went to see a movie, War of the Worlds. Okay, we saw it in Version Originale (English), but the previews and subtitles were in French. We'll work our way up.
We've had a lot of requests for more of Ella's sketches. So, I'll post one here that she did of the Abbey at Jumieges (it's the same view as in the photograph on the previous post).
