Disappointing the Ducks

The weather is absolutely beautiful here, so we spent the entire day outside. We walked to Bercy Park again. This time, instead of walking along the elevated Promenade Plantee, we walked along the street level Viaduct des Artes, a long stretch of very cool, art studios and stores of every possible medium. We then played in Bercy Park for a while, where Ella conquered yet another playground climbing wall (see the photo for the proud smile!). Then, as half of our baguette had mysteriously disappeared from under our stroller (?), we had nothing left to feed the ducks but flower petals. We walked back along yet another route that included the canal Saint-Martin, which runs above ground close to the Seine and underground under the Boulevard Richard Lenoir.

This evening we met a potential babysitter at a local playground for an interview. She is studying English at the Sorbonne, works at Paris Disneyland, and was very nice. She may watch the kids a few hours a week during August to give them a bit more exposure to French, and to give us a chance to do some "grown-up" activities in Paris.

Lest it seem that our life is one long vacation (although sometimes it seems that way to us too!), I'll also mention that Abe's work on the synagogue is coming along at breakneck speed and is going great, and that I am starting work (with a former student) on a book chapter on some research from BG.

Is it possible your days go faster than ours? We love reading about your adventures - in the morning and evening- and are thrilled all is going so well in Paris and Ohio (except for the petal-fed-ducks ...)
My (R's)fingers are crossed for luck with school placements for the Kids, and that the new baby- sitter works out well....that is, except when I'm knitting Dara's poncho, which takes 5 fingers & 2 hands. Actually the new hotel sounds so lovely, maybe I'll hand-deliver the poncho as soon as it's finished - just kidding.
Much love to all

How is abe's work coming along at breakneck speed when he is always picnicking and napping with Jonah?? I must know his secret. Abe is my HERO.

Abe's schedule includes playing all day and then working into the wee hours of the morning. There'll be plenty of time for sleeping next year in Ohio.
