First Sunday of the month

The first Sunday of the month in Paris, the museums are free. So, we took advantage of this to have our first museum day since we arrived. We started at the Cluny museum which is medieval art. I had made a little treasure hunt for Ella which consisted of a list of likely medieval art images (castle, lion, boat, tree, bird, etc.). To win the treasure hunt, she had to find all ten objects somewhere in the art. The prize was the postcard of her choice from the gift shop. It was wonderful to see her really examining each painting and sculpture in the hope of finding something on her list.
Next came the biggest challenge of the day which consisted of finding lunch. It turned out that every grocery store, bakery, etc. that wasn't closed for August was closed for Sunday! We managed to piece together enough food to fortify us through an afternoon of more museums.
We next went to the Rodin Museum. Ella had a great time photographing the sculptures in the garden; Jonah, thankfully, fell asleep in the stroller.
Although it was late, and we were tired (we had already walked several miles by then), we decided to stop by the Musee D'Orsay for a quick look on our way home. Ella is a big Monet fan, and also enjoyed the Degas ballerinas and the Seurat pointillism.
So, there was something for everyone today. Although we all had fun at all three museums, Ella's favorite was the Cluny, Abe loves the Rodin, and my favorite is the D'Orsay. Any time we ask Jonah what his favorite thing of the day was (a common dinner conversation), he replies "the Elmo show." He is apparently sneaking off to Sesame Street without us!

You packed so much in to the museum-day! I agree with Abe's pick -- I'm glad to know the Rodin Museum is still there!
Were they thinking of moving it?
no, you just never know when someone is going to up and change something in your absence. Tout change ...
