Lost and Found

Today was a day of losts and founds. On the way to the library last week to return our books, two small kids' books evidently slid out of the stroller basket along the way. Today, Ella and I decided to go to the Marie (town hall) to ask if they have a lost and found. Unfortunately, there is only one centralized lost and found for the entire city and it's clear across town. So, no luck. However, on the way back from the Marie, we saw two 20 euro bills just lying on the sidewalk. Another man saw it at the same time as us and picked it up. We both looked around a bit to see if it belonged to someone, but found no one. We decided to share the money. Our half will cover both library books and a good lunch from the boulangerie.

Later in the afternoon, Abe and Ella went to the pool (meanwhile I was at my baking class. Today's menu included gnocchi Parisienne [in bechamel sauce], omlette Norweigen [which is like baked Alaska], chasson aux pommes [a folded apple tarte], and palmiers [yummy, crunchy cookies]). As Abe and Ella were getting dressed after swimming, someone evidently picked up Abe's jacket from the locker room (maybe thinking it had something of value in the pockets?). Another loss. They came home, looked up the word for "lost & found," and went back to the pool. Sure enough, it was there in the gym office. Found.

On a broader scale, Jonah has completely lost any reluctance about his creche - this entire week he has gone in with a big smile; and has found a new girl friend, Mimi. I asked him if he could introduce me to Mimi today at the end of the day, and he nonchalantly told me, "her Dad already came and picked her up."

That is such a cool story! I love lost and found stories. Especially when there is a nice found involved. It makes you think that everything is always shifting around but it will all be OK in the end.
